Latin

All pupils study Latin in Year 7 and Year 8. The syllabus is based on the requirements for the 13+ Common Entrance Exam and senior school scholarship exams, which form the foundation for Latin and Classical Civilisation GCSE courses. We use the Cambridge Latin Course which introduces pupils to the basics of grammatical structures in a lively way. This creative course incorporates a broad vocabulary and encourages pupils to develop a range of analytical linguistic skills, involving translation from and into Latin. The story follows a family living in Pompeii in the first century. C.E. pupils discover what life was like in that period of the Roman Empire through the exploration of a variety of background topics including the amphitheatre and local elections.
