Daneshill Pupils Get Creative
On returning from half-term, the Daneshill pupils found themselves immersed in a week of creative writing and literature. Pupils in years 5 – 8 kicked off the week with an energising and stimulating presentation from Alex Scarrow; the author of the successful TimeRiders series. This was then followed by the entire school dressing up as a character from their favourite book to mark World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. Throughout the course of the day a ‘Book Fair’ ran that was open for both parents and pupils. Thanks to the support of parents we were able to raise £100 worth of books for the school library, which is a great achievement and much appreciated.
The week culminated with a ‘Book Swap’ on Friday that allowed all the children to donate a book. Children in the Junior School were particularly engaged by this event and enjoyed reading their new books in the pavilion during a somewhat more temperate Friday afternoon.
From Monday 28th February to Friday 4th March, every child in Years 1 – 8 entered into their respective inter-year creative writing competition. There was also a parents’ competition, which was well supported by both mothers and fathers from across the school. The winners will be announced very shortly and will be invited to a special tea to celebrate creative writing on Monday 14th March.
