Plain Sailing for Year 7
This week brought good news for all Year 7 pupils who have been pursuing the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Level 1 sailing course. All pupils successfully completed the course and gained their first RYA qualification.
The children began the course during Michealmas term, before taking some time out to undertake the PADI diving course. They resumed their sailing this term and are now fully conversant with tacking (changing direction), launching and recovering their boats. The pupils have been using a mixture of Topper and Laser boats during the course. The module forms part of Daneshill’s exciting Outdoor Pursuits curriculum, specifically tailored to challenge and develop leadership and team skills in 13+ pupils. Children have been sailing at a local lake. It is ideally located close to the school on 22-acres of sheltered water.
