Daneshill Diary 09/12/16

Headmaster’s Notes

Well done to all the children in the Nursery and Pre-Prep who performed their Christmas Nativity plays this week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the Pre-Prep department performed a Christmas Nativity play entitled ‘Straw and Order’. There was plenty of humour, wonderful singing and dancing, great acting and strong, confident voices. The finale with all the children on stage, singing their hearts out, was truly memorable.

On Thursday it was the turn of the Nursery children who performed the traditional Christmas story. All the boys and girls managed their parts beautifully with some angelic singing and excellent movement. It is wonderful to see such young children performing in front of an audience and having fun. Congratulations to all the pupils and a huge ‘thank you’ to the teaching staff.

Many congratulations to our talented team of scientists; Harry Aldred, Alex Harker, Ciaran Churcher and Monty Cross, who competed on Thursday in the semi-finals of the Prep School Science Quiz. The Daneshill team won the competition and now qualify for the National Final in Oxford next term. What an achievement!

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Carol Service next week, but if our paths don’t cross, may I wish you a very happy and restful Christmas.

Pre-Prep News

Our first performance of ‘Straw and Order’ began at 9.30am on Monday and what a fabulous way for the Prep School children to start their week with glorious singing and confident performances by all.  Having thought things couldn’t get better the children then excelled themselves with their performances to the parents on Tuesday and Wednesday.  It was a pleasure to witness the delight from the children having experienced the thrill of stepping into the limelight and also so rewarding for us as Pre-prep staff to hear the joy and excitement from both children and parents after each show.  We have been so proud of all the children this week.

As 2016 draws to a close it provides us with a chance to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all parents for their continued support and we wish you a relaxing and hugely enjoyable family Christmas.

Nursery Notes

The Nursery children were eager to show their parents and families their nativity play. They couldn’t wait to get into their costumes and start the show. The room was filled with parents and grandparents, some of which travelled an hour and half to see the little ones perform. Mrs Vlasta, Mrs Lee and I were so proud of how well they did; remembering their lines and singing their hearts out.  It was a perfect start to Christmas and a huge ‘well done’ to them all!

Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week for more festive fun.

Reports

U.11 A

There was some good hockey played in the first half and the midfield players did their job of distributing the ball out wide at every opportunity. It wasn’t all one-way traffic though and Dolphin stuck at it, breaking into our half on a number of occasions. Daneshill did enjoy the majority of the possession though and looked very dangerous on the break throughout the entire game. I was delighted with the way the girls played their hockey and how they listened and reacted to the advice given at half time. The final score was 6-0 to Daneshill; a fair reflection of our superior skills and determination. A great end to the hockey season!

U.11 B

Having watched the A’s win, the B team were looking forward to showing what they could do on the hockey pitch too. The game started slowly with neither team taking control and a bit of ping-pong was being played. Once the girls had warmed up a little the game began to flow a bit more and a better shape emerged; passing was stronger and more direct though communication was lacking just slightly. After a serious talk at half time, a determined set of young ladies got their act together. With some nifty stick work and sheer grit two team goals were fired into the back of the net. The final score was 2-0 to Daneshill. Well done, girls!
