Equestrian Team to the Championships

After some success last term the Y8 team has been hoping to qualify for the championships.

On Jan 20th Sofia, Candy, Amelia and Barnaby represented Daneshill at the NSEA Show Jumping County Qualifier at the Berkshire College of Agriculture. The classes were enormous and the courses were tough and we didn’t place on the 90 class – but our team came 6th overall in the 80 just pipped by Churchers School as highest placed school in Hampshire (Churchers were 5th overall).  However the kids and ponies were amazing and produced 3 fast clears thus beating many other schools and getting placed 6th.

Then last Saturday, the team travelled to West Wilts Equestrian Centre to compete in the NSEA Eventers Challenge Qualifier. This consists of a course of show jumps followed by a course of cross country-jumps, all timed.

The Daneshill Team – riders and ponies – were determined, fast, careful, brave and talented – they produced superb rounds over the tricky 80-85 course – the class was about 4 hours long with over 100 competitors in their school teams.

Only first and second teams would qualify and we came 2nd! So we have qualified for the championships at Hickstead in May!

Congratulations to Sofia, Candy, Amelia and Barnaby who were fantastic. It took a lot of talent and guts and they did it whilst remaining modest and polite – a real credit to the school!

Will Brooks and Francesca also rode in the 70-75 class and showed masses of potential – well done to the rising stars.
