The U7’s first football match

U7 Football match v Papplewick

The big day had finally come, after a long anticipated wait the boys boarded the mini bus and departed for Papplewick for their first ever school football fixture. The boys were clearly very excited and ready to get out onto the pitch. After a quick warm up and some final position preparation, the game started. Papplewick had a good start to the game and scored an early goal, however the boys picked themselves back up and got straight back into the game. Rufus held the back of defence well and made some crucial tackles. Freddie led the team well from midfield by carrying the ball forward and picking out some fantastic through balls. Harvey used he pace to great affect to take on defenders and Xander was everywhere on the pitch winning back possession and shooting on target – forcing the Papplewick goal keeper to make a save! Papplewick had some good shots on target themselves, Austin made an excellent low right hand corner save to deny them another goal. Wilby had a great game and made it very hard for Papplewicks attack by making some excellent tackles and Bobby stepped up in goal to prevent more of Papplewicks shots on target. Harvey had a fantastic shot on target late in the second half, only to be denied by a great save from the opposition. Once the match had finished, the boys made their way round to the much anticipated match tea – it did not disappoint. Hot dogs and donuts were eaten and laughs were shared with the opposition team! A great experience for the boys, which has given them an insight into what their Year 3 fixtures will be like next year.
